How To Change Colours & Weather in Windows Phone Calendar

The Windows Phone Calendar app is pretty power and intuitive.  You can sync multiple calendars from multiple sources including Gmail, Yahoo and yes, even iCloud.  Each calendar is represented by a different colour in the Windows Phone Calendar app and sometimes these colour choices are not exactly what you had in mind.  Fortunately there is a quick and easy way to do this in the app & I will show you how to customise this in this How To.

First, open up the Windows Phone Calendar app on your Windows Phone and then tap the More button in the lower right corner on

the menu bar and tap settings.  This will bring you to the colour selection inside the app.  You will see all of your calendars listed here from all of the services that you are using for calendars.  As you can see from my screen capture on the right, I have quite a few calendars from various services and each one is represented by a different colour for easier identification.

You have two things that you can do from this screen.  First, if you have a calendar that you don’t want to see in the main app, tap the check box to remove the check.  It will no longer be displayed on your calendar in the app.  Second you can chose the colour that you want to represent each of your calendars by tapping the colour option for each one.  Doing this will open up the colour palette with

over a dozen different colour options.

For me, because my Exchange calendar is my primary calendar, I like making it the Theme Colour, meaning it will be the same colour as the accent colour I’ve chosen on my Windows Phone.  I like being all matchy-match.  For the others, it’s general an effort to make sure they don’t look similar to each other by choosing vastly different options on the palette for each calendar.

Once you have selected the colours that you want for each of your calendars, press the back button on your phone and you will be taken back to the Windows Phone calendar.  You will now see your various calendars in the colour scheme that you have selected for each of them.

Now there is one other trick in Windows Phone Calendar that is in Settings but slightly buried.  You

have the option to add weather information to each day in the calendar.  It is a backend integration that Microsoft does between the calendar app and Bing Weather.  To turn this on, go back into settings and then scroll to the very bottom of the page.  There you will see a check box to enable weather on your calendar.  Use the Back button on your phone and now you see a small weather forecast indicator in the upper right corner of your Windows Phone Calendar.

The Windows Phone calendar app is a pretty powerful app and it certainly will meet the needs of the vast majority of users.  With these small tweaks and customisations you can make it work better for you and provide you with more of the information you need at a glance.
