Gmail for Android Update Brings Easy Recent Conversation View

The official Gmail app for Android has been updated today, bringing a new recent conversations view with your contacts.  The update version will vary by device but on my KitKat driven BLU VIVO IV it is version 5.2.93061572 (say that three times real fast) for those keeping score at home.  The update also has some other new features including some that will benefit those of you who are on Lollipop.

The new conversations view allows you to see the recent conversations with a contact.  When you open an email from a contact, tap their avatar and then you will see a section of the most recent conversations you have had with them.  It’s a great way for you to keep track of the conversations you have had with a contact, especially over the course of a week or two.

There is also an improved tablet layout in this update for Google’s mail app.  The layout includes much faster switching between inbox categories and accounts.  Keep in mind that the Gmail app can actually be your single email app for Outlook.com, Yahoo Mail and other accounts that you have rights to access.

Finally, if you are on Lollipop, Gmail now offers you the ability to hide sensitive lock screen notifications so they won’t pop up at the wrong time. 🙂

As you would expect, Gmail is free and available now in the Play Store
