OnePlus X Launch Set for October 29th

It looks like we will see OnePlus’ latest offering, the OnePlus X, in a few weeks time in London.  On the company’s twitter account, a teaser post was made with a image of a lit X as part of the post.

The post seems to confirm that the OnePlus X, the smaller sibling to the OnePlus 2, will be launched worldwide on the 29th.  While it is good to see OnePlus expanding their portfolio, the company is having some almighty challenges getting stock on their flagship phone.  The only hope is that they have sorted that out for the OnePlus X.

Specifications for the OnePlus X are scarce and somewhat more rumor than fact.  It is believe to be a 5″ displayed device that is Full HD, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, 13MP rear camera, 5MP

front camera, NFC and a 2450mAh battery.  The phone is also expected to run OnePlus’ homegrown version of Android Marshmallow, OxygenOS 3.0.  Price point for the OnePlus X is also a mystery but it is expected to retail for around $300.  Rumors also suggest that it will use an Apple-esque 3D Touch type technology, ClearTouch from Synaptics.

The one thing that the OnePlus X has that will rile those who purchased the OnePlus 2 is NFC.  OnePlus was clear in their launch of that device that NFC wasn’t ready for prime time so they didn’t including.  Now, it seems, they are reversing course.  The lack of NFC and the subsequent false starts on shipping and ordering has hurt OnePlus and OnePlus 2 sales (which I said they couldn’t afford) so it will be interesting to see how the company recovers and addresses all of these things with the OnePlus X.
