HTC 10 Officially Launched With Excellent Specs

Although we pretty much knew everything there was to know about the HTC 10 prior to its launch today, it was good to see the official announcement and specifications of the device that will be their flagship device this year.  HTC has stuck with the same design they have been using since the ONE M7, which is not a bad thing.  The ONE series have been some of the more acclaimed devices from a design and aesthetics perspective but the specifications of those devices, particularly around the camera, have been lackluster at best.  With the HTC 10, it seems that has changed.

When you look over the specs of the 10, it is a true flagship device.  It has a 5.2″ Super LCD display with a curved edge.  That display renders an amazing 2560 x 1440 resolution at 564ppi.  This

display will be super sharp and easy on the eyes for sure.  It is powered by a 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 820 processor and has 4GB of RAM.  Storage on board the HTC 10 will be either 32GB or 64GB but you can expanded that up to an additional 2TB (that’s right, terabytes) with the MicroSD slot.  Like most flagship devices today, the HTC 10 sports a fingerprint reader and is also using the new USB Type-C connector.

Where the real improvements for this phone have come however are in the cameras.  The rear camera is a 12MP f/1.8 aperture shooter with laser autofocus while the front camera is a 5MP unit that is also a f/1.8 aperture.  The rear camera is using a 1.55µm pixel size so the photos should be crisp, something that has not been the case in previous HTC phones.  The improvements around the cameras along will make the HTC 10 stand out from previous models but wrap up this entire package of specifications and you have a serious device for the market.

The HTC 10 will come standard with Android Marshmallow with HTC Sense, the HTC-built user experience.  Beyond Sense, HTC is not loading a lot of other apps onto the 10 so it is going to be less bloated than their previous devices when it comes to out-of-the-box apps.

The 10 will start at $699 and be available later this month.  You can pre-order yours from HTC now in Carbon Grey or Glacier Silver.  There will be a Topaz Gold color available later but it cannot be pre-ordered at this time.
