OnePlus 3 Launches With Excellent Specs and a Great Starting Price of $399

As expected, OnePlus announced the launch of the OnePlus 3, their 2016 “Flagship killer” device.  As the name suggests, this is the 3rd OnePlus smartphone and as they say, the 3rd time is a charm.  The specs of this new phone are outstanding and with a starting price of just $399 it should be on everyone’s short list for consideration.  Oh, and the best part:  You can get it today!  No more invites as they have done in the past.

The OnePlus 3 is powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor which is a Quad-Core clocked at 2.2GHz.  It has the Andreno 630 GPU, has 6GB (yes, you read that right) of RAM and 64GB of storage.  The storage is not expandable but for most people, 64GB will be more than enough storage.

Camera wise, the rear shooter is a 16MP f/2.0 auto-focus with OIS with 1.12 micron pixels.  That’s not outstanding but based on the photos I’ve seen from OnePlus from the 3, it looks to be

excellent.  The rear camera is able to shoot in RAW as well as 4K video and 720p slow motion video.  The front camera is an 8MP f/2.0 camera that is fixed focus and able to shoot up to 1080p video.

Here in the United States, LTE bands 1/2/4/5/7/8/12/17 are supported as are HSPA bands 1/2/4/5/8.  It is also a dual-SIM phone and all bands are supported on both SIMs.  Display wise, the 3 has a 5.5″ OAMOLED screen that renders at 1920 x 1080 with ~441 ppi and full HD.

The OnePlus 3 has NFC support, something that OnePlus took a beating for not including on the OnePlus 2, and it has a fingerprint scanner for security that OnePlus claims works in .2 seconds.  The battery in the 3 is a 3000 mAh unit and the phone has a USB Type-C connector and supports Dash Charge which gives you a full charge of the phone in about an hour.

Finally, from an OS perspective, the 3 runs Android Marshmallow as the basis of their homebrew version of Android OxygenOS.
