Updated Chrome for Android Released With Several New Features

There is a new update to Chrome for Android rolling out that has some nice new features for the browser.  The update is version 54.0.2840.68 for those keeping score at home and is now in the Google Play Store.  The OTA update should roll out to your devices over the course of the next few days.  Once you have it, there are three new features that will be available that improve the overall experience of the app.  First, there are new article suggestions when you open up a new tab.  This will be based on your browsing history as well as topics you’ve identified in other Google services (like Google News) that are of interest to you.

Second, media can now play in the background for sites that support it.  This is a nice feature for those who have multiple tabs

going (say a YouTube video) and want to work on another tab at the same time.  Finally, and this is a big one, you can now update passwords that you change or reset within Chrome on your phone.  To this point you could only do this on the browser for the desktop.  Obviously this really only comes into play when you have Chrome for Android  save your passwords for faster accessing of sites that require a login.

As you would expect, there are also other security and performance improvements in the browser to make things run a big smoother.  Even if the new features aren’t a big deal to you, make sure you update when it is available to you so you have all of the benefits of the latest security updates to the browser.
