Nexus 6 owners, rejoice! Google has just released Android Nougat 7.1.1 for the phone, bringing it line with other Nexus and Pixel phones. The update, build N6F26Q, comes a few weeks after the initial release of 7.1.1 with a few remaining bug issues preventing it from being released on the 2014 flagship Nexus device. Google had committed to having the update out this week and, true to their word, it has happened.
Full factory images and OTA images are now available on the Android Developer site for those who want to manually flash your devices. For those of you who want to wait, the OTA is rolling out now and should be hitting devices over the course of the next few days. Keep in mind however it can take a week or two before it hit everyone.
The update is a hefty 923MB download so when you get the update, you’ll need to be on Wi-Fi to download and install it. The whole upgrade process take around 30 minutes. Once you have it,

you get all the new benefits of the maintenance release. That includes things like App Shortcuts, new round icons and general performance and battery improvements.
As with all the Android updates, this one is aimed at the unlocked version of the Nexus 6. If you have one on T-Mobile for example, you will have to wait until the 7.1.1 update washes through their QA process before you see it. That could add a few more weeks.

Any idea for whom Google posted the January OTA 7.0 Build NBD91X for? I figure that means at least one wireless carrier has not provided Technical Acceptance for 7.1.1 Build N6F26Q. If that carrier was T-Mobile, I would think that many also impact users on Project Fi, MetroPCS, and other MVNO’s that use Big Pink. Or maybe Verizon and it’s MVNO’s like Page Plus Cellular, etc.?
I am sure such users could sideload N6F26Q, incurring the risk that it may not work properly on T-Mobile or Verizon and their MVNO’s. It’s a shame Google rarely lists which carriers have approved which builds.

I have no idea Gray. I suspect you are right in that the 7.0 builds are for a carrier or two but which ones, even if they are based here in the US, I have no idea. Your guess is as good as mine mate. Sorry I can’t be more help on this one.
