Nokia today made a somewhat of a surprise announcement with the new Nokia 5.1, 3.1 and 2.1 phones coming to their lineup later this summer. Running Android One on the 5.1 and 3.1 while running on the 2.1 will be Android Go, HMD Global has more-or-less given incremental upgrades to the .0 versions of these current phones in their lineup.
By far the biggest upgrade came to the Nokia 5.1. Sporting a 5.5″ Full HD display, it has an 18:9 aspect ratio and is powered by the MediaTek Helio P18 octa-core SoC. It comes with either 2GB of RAM with 16GB of storage or 3GB of RAM with 32GB of storage. IN either case, the storage can be expanded an additional 128GB thanks to the MicroSD slot. Camera wise, you have a 16MP main shooter with auto-focus while the selfie camera is an 8MP shooter. All of this, along with the phone running Android One (Oreo) will cost a comfortable $218 when it is released.
The Nokia 3.1 is a slightly smaller 5.2″ display but maintains the 18:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the MediaTek 6750 octa-core SoC and comes, like the 5.1, with 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB RAM and storage configuration. It an also be expanded by 128GB thanks to the MicroSD slot. Finally, it will be powered by Android One and will be priced at around $160 when it is released later this summer.
Finally, there is the super budget friendly Nokia 2.1. Running on the Snapdragon 425 SoC, the 2.1 comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage which can be expanded up to 128GB of storage thanks to the MicroSD slot. The big selling point on the 2.1 is the 4000mAh battery which Nokia suggest will get 2 days of battery life. Pretty impressive and that battery life is most certainly helped by the fact the phone is running Android Go with the battery friendly Go versions of popular Android apps.
Price wise, the 2.1 will be $115.
With HMD Global going with Android One and Android Go on these phones, that means that you are going to be getting consistent and regular updates to these devices, including Android P (and probably even Android Q).
Look for these phones to be everywhere globally in June of this year.
