Today’s Deal Part Two – Amazon Echo Dot is $39 Today Only

Here is another great Today’s Deal for everyone, especially those who use Amazon Alexa and Amazon Echo devices already.  Today only you can pick up an Amazon Echo Dot for $39.  That is a savings of $10 and the pricing is good on either the black or white models to match your decor.

The promotion on the Amazon Echo Dot is on the 2nd generation of the smaller Echo device and these are new units.  They are not refurbished.  The Echo Dot gives you hands-free access to Amazon Alexa, the company’s Artificial Intelligence powered personal assistant, and allows you to access thousands of skills to control your smart home devices or other services.  The Echo Dot has 7 far-field microphones built in so it can easily handle being the primary device in a room.

Amazon Adds Four LG Phones to Their Prime Phones Lineup

Amazon today has added four new LG phones to their popular Amazon Prime phone lineup.  The four phones join the nine other phones already in the lineup but are the first from LG to be added.

Like the other phones in the program, they will have adverts on the lock screen for the discounted price but, if you want, you can opt to pay a bit more and not have the ads.  They are also unlocked and will work with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon depending on the model.

The four phones added are the LG X Charge, LG Q6, LG G6 and the LG G6+.

The entry level X Charge is a 5.5″ 720p display phone powered by the MediaTek MT6750 SoC.  It has 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage and a MicroSD slot for memory expansion.  It has a 13MP main camera and a 5MP selfie camera.  The X Charge will work with AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and runs Android Nougat 7.1.

The phone is $199 without the ads and $149 with the ads.

Next is the LG Q6.  It is more-or-less a “lite” version of the G6.  It has a 5.5″ 18:9 FHD+ display and is powered by the Snapdragon 435 SoC.  It has 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage and can expand thanks to the MicroSD slot.  Like the X Charge, it also has a 13MP main camera and 5MP selfie camera.  The phone will work on AT&T and T-Mobile and it is running Nougat 7.1.

The Q6 is $299 without adverts while the subsidized version is $229.  Note that the LG Q6 will be available to ship starting November 9th.

Google Pixelbook Already Available for Pre-Order on Amazon

For you Amazon shoppers who are looking to get your hands on the new Google Pixelbook, you can now pre-order it on the site.  During the presentation on the new Chromebook, Google mentioned that it would be available at retailers like Amazon and Best Buy so it isn’t surprising.  In fact, the listing for the Pixelbook clearly states it is being sold by Google through their Amazon storefront.

Don’t look for any special pricing either.  The i5 equipped Google Pixelbook with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is $999, the same price as it is directly from Google.  And while pre-orders are now available, shipping won’t happen until October 31st, just like the Google Store.

Today’s Deal – Choetech Nylon Braided USB-C Cable 3-Pack for $13

Today’s Deal comes from Choetech on their durable USB-C cables.  Right now you can pick up a 3-pack of the nylon braided cables for $12.99 on Amazon.  That’s a $7 savings off the regular price.

The 3-pack of cables includes two 1m (3.3′) cables and one 2m (6.6′) cable, all of which support up to 5Gbps transfer speeds and USB 3.0.  All of the cables are USB-A to USB-C and are, of course, backwards compatible to older USB 2.0 and 1.1 connectors (but you lose the transfer speeds).

Amazon Echo Show Owner? No YouTube for You!

Ah, the love between Amazon and Google shows itself once more…. NOT!  It appears that the latest spat between the two giants is over YouTube and the newish Amazon Echo Show.

Users of the new Alexa-powered smart device were cut off from YouTube yesterday with a warning that the smart speaker was unable to play content from the world’s largest video site.  Amazon states that they are disappointed, laying the blame at the feet of Google.  Google, in return, indicates that the reason for the shutdown is due to a violation of the terms of service and that they made Amazon aware that Tuesday was the drop date.

Today’s Deal – Amazon Fire HD 10 Tablet for $149

Amazon has done well with their lineup of Android-based tablets and their latest update to their 10″ model is quite impressive.  The new Fire HD 10 is available for pre-order from the retailer and this update is really impressive for its $149 price point.

The new Fire HD 10 has a 10.1″ display that renders 1920 x 1200 resolution making it a full HD display.  It is powered by a Mediatek quad-core processor that runs at 1.8GHz and is coupled with 2GB of RAM.  That RAM count is double of the first Fire HD 10 and should significantly improve performance, especially with multiple apps running.  Storage comes in at either 32GB or 64GB depending on the model but there is a MicroSD expansion slot.  That will add up to an additional 256GB of storage to the tablet.

Today’s Deal – Save on USB Storage on Amazon

Today’s Deal is a bit different than the norm.  It is on a range of SanDisk and Samsung USB-based storage solutions for your PC, Mac, Chromebook or devices that can take a MicroSD card.

Let’s start with the SanDisk MicroSD cards.  There are a wide range of them on sale today to expand the storage on your Android phone or other device:

  • SanDisk 32GB MicroSD – $11.99
  • SanDisk 64GB MicroSD – $29.91

For those who are looking for USB storage for your computing devices, you have some options there too.

  • SanDisk Ultra Fit 32GB USB 3.0 – $9.57
  • SanDisk Ultra Fit 64GB USB 3.0 – $15.19
  • Samsung 128GB USB-C Flash Drive – $42.99

All of these are great prices and I can’t recommend the SanDisk Ultra Fit devices enough.  I have several of the 64GB models for my Mac & Chromebooks and their performance is outstanding.

Today’s Deal – Huawei Mate 9 for $449 at Amazon

Today’s Deal is on the fantastic phablet from Huawei, the Huawei Mate 9.  Today on Amazon you can pick up the 5.9″ phone with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for $449.95.  That’s $150 off the original $599 price tag.  Plus, you have the choice of two colors for this price:  Moonlight Silver or Space Grey.  I reviewed the Mate 9 earlier this year and it is an outstanding device with an awesome display, great battery life and excellent cameras.  At this price, it is well worth considering.

So what does $449 get you in the Huawei Mate 9?  A lot frankly.  It is a 5.9″ phone running Android Nougat, an octa-core processor running at 2.4GHz and Leica optics dual-camera setup shooting at 20MP and 12MP respectively with OIS.  The front facing selfie camera is 8MP shooter.  You also have 64GB of built-in storage that can be expanded up to an additional  256GB thanks to the MicroSD slot.  Finally, it comes with a US warranty so you are not buying an international version of the phone.
