AT&T Releases Software Update for Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Good news this morning for owners of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge on the AT&T network.  There is a new update to Android Marshmallow available for each device that among other things brings you the April Security Update for Android.  The update has been released by the carrier and it will take a few days for the update to come to everyone on the network but when it does, you’ll have the latest update from Google along with a few other tweaks from AT&T themselves.

AT&T Rolling Out Galaxy S7 Security Update…No, Not That One

AT&T today has joined the “Let’s upgrade your Galaxy S7” party along with T-Mobile and Verizon, pushing out an update for both the S7 and the S7 Edge.  Unlike the other two carriers however, this update from AT&T does not contain the March Security update for Android.  This update is focused on general performance and security on the devices but it does not contain the March update.  The carrier didn’t give any indication as to when the March update would be seen on their network but given that their main competitors have already rolled it out, the pressure is on.

Galaxy S7 Series on T-Mobile Gets March Update

Good news for those of you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 Edge on the T-Mobile network.  The March security update for Android is coming your way starting today via an OTA update.  The update is small, sub-50MB, so it won’t take you long to download it although a restart is required of your phone during the update process.  Once it is completed, you will be on the latest-and-greatest Marshmallow build.  The versions you are looking for is G930TUVS2APB8 for both devices and T-Mobile is saying everyone will have it between now and March 25th.

Galaxy S7 Sales Stronger Than Expected

During a press briefing yesterday, Samsung’s President of the company’s handheld division, Koh Dong-jin, reported that sales of the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge have been stronger than the company initially anticipated.  While no specific figures were given nor were any sales targets, the public announcement is a good sign for the company who by all accounts had lackluster sales for the previous S6 lineup – by their standards.

AT&T Also Shipping The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Early

Following the move by T-Mobile, AT&T has also started shipping the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge to customers who pre-ordered the flagship devices.  AT&T customers who placed their order for one of the devices are reporting that they have received shipping notices and devices this week.  T-Mobile was the first to do this with the new S7’s, with shipping notices going out on Monday of this week and some customers receiving the devices already.

T-Mobile Already Preparing Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge Shipments

It looks like those of you who ordered your new Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge from T-Mobile are going to get your shiny new toy a little early.  Various users on Reddit have reported that they have received shipping notices from the carrier with some devices shipping as early as today.  This is well ahead of the launch date of March 11th which I reported last week when pre-orders began.  The shipping dates appear to have been confirmed by T-Mobile reps with these Reddit users and there are big number of them reporting this.  It looks like it is a go.

Samsung & LG, Give Android Users Some Credit

Over the course of the last week, the news coming out of Mobile World Congress (MWC) has been the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge along with the new LG G5.  These three devices look stunningly impressive from a design and function perspective and early indications are they will be quite a hit here in 2016.  But as the dust settled and people started taking a hard look at these devices, it became clear that one of the benefits of Android Marshmallow, which all three devices are running, is missing:  Adoptable Storage.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge Pre-Sales Start Today

As expected and announced, the new Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are now available for pre-sale from AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and Verizon.  All four of the carriers started taking orders today with an anticipated delivery date no later than March 11th.  All of the carriers have the 32GB version of these devices as Samsung has made no plans to sell the 64GB versions here in the US.  While the prices for the devices varies a little, all of them have financing plans available to get you the new phone without having to necessarily come up with $600+ dollars today.
