Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge Start Seeing Lollipop 5.1.1 on T-Mobile

If you have a Samsung Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge and use T-Mobile as your carrier here in the United States, today is a pretty good day.  The Lollipop 5.1.1 update is streaming down to your device starting today and with it comes several bug fixes and feature improvements to make the experience a bit better.  The update is coming via OTA (over-the-air) so you can either wait for your Galaxy S6 to let you know the update is available or you can force the issue.  Go to Settings>General>About device>software update and manually check to see if the update is there for you.  The update is a bit slow in rolling out so you may have to check a few times but you will get it soon.

Yesterday I posted that AT&T is now listing the Lumia 640XL on their website as a device that is “Coming Soon”.  Now T-Mobile has gotten in on the act with the Lumia 640.  When it was launched last week at Mobile World Congress, T-Mobile was one of the first to sign up to get the Lumia 640 along with AT&T and MetroPCS.   While none of the carriers have them in stock yet, T-Mobile is now listing it as “Coming Soon” on their website.

Unlocking Your Mobile is Easier Starting Today

Starting today, unlocking your paid for Windows Phone or other mobile device just became easier.  The major carriers in the United States – AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and US Cellular – have all voluntarily committed to CTIA consumer standards set forth back in 2013.  The Consumer Code for Wireless Service was set out by the CTIA and it outlines guidelines for carriers when it comes to consumer rights and services.  These five carriers along with Bluegrass Cellular and Cellcom all agreed to abide by these guidelines and a key part of them is unlocking of devices.

T-Mobile Will Not Roll Out Windows Phone 8.1 HTC 8X

If you have been waiting to get Windows Phone 8.1 on your HTC 8X as a T-Mobile customer, your wait is over.  According to a Tweet from the T-Mobile USA Twitter account, the company has no plans of releasing any future updates to this device.  It’s sad news but it shouldn’t come as a complete shock to many Windows Phone fans.  The 8x was released in November 2012 so at just over 2 years old and with HTC still not fully committed to Windows Phone, it is hardly a surprise
