Airscanner Mobile Antivirus 3.0As you dig deeper into Mobile Antivirus you quickly learn that it is far more than just an antivirus scanning application. On the tools menu you will find a host of great and useful applets that make the overall application one that is difficult to resist. The first tool is the Processes Manager. As the name implies, the Processes Manager displays for you all of the various processes that are running on your Windows Mobile device in real time. In addition to the name of the process, it gives you the PID (Process Identification) of that process and the full directory path to it. Like your Windows based PC, some processes running on your Windows Mobile device can be cryptic and getting to the root of where the process is generating from can be a challenge. This is where the full directory path can help you isolate these sources. Within the Processes Manager you have an Options menu which allows you to perform a variety of tasks on the processes running on your device. From the options menu you can kill a process, get detailed information on the process such as the active number of threads, and get a complete summary of the total number of threads, heaps and processes running on your device. For most of you this granular detail will likely be overkill. But for those who want to know everything that's going on with your device, this applet will quickly become your friend!
The second tool on the Tools menu is the System Information tool. This tool gives you, in great detail, all of the vital information related to your device and is divided into several key categories. Under the General Info menu you will see a high level overview of your device including the platform, device model, processor name, OS version, memory and so forth. The only thing that it doesn't display is the Owner Name which would be handy to see. Under the Memory and Storage menu you will see a high level of the various memory options on your device as well as the amount of free memory that is available on them.
Finally, you also have viewers for your battery and installed fonts to get a more refined look at these as well. The battery viewer gives you information such as the number of milliamps your battery is being taxed with as well as the battery's temperature. The font viewer will show you the number of installed fonts you have on your device and if they are TrueType fonts.
The third and final application on the Tools menu is the Registry Viewer. With this viewer you can get a high level few of the keys and values of them in your device. It is important to remember that the Registry Viewer is just that: A viewer. You will not be able to edit any registry keys with Mobile Antivirus which ultimately in my mind is fine. After all, this is an antivirus application, not a registry editor!
From an overall perspective it is difficult to find things not to like about Mobile Antivirus. The application performs exceptionally well without taxing your device to the point that it is unusable while a scan is in progress. With the automatic updates and scheduling features, you can make Mobile Antivirus "invisible" to your daily life, something I like when it comes to utilities such as this and backup applications. As I pointed out earlier, it would be nice to have the Owner Name information in the System Information viewer but overall this is the only thing that I think needs improvement in this application. Given the amount of time that Airscanner has had this application in the marketplace, it is clear that it is well written, well designed with very few weaknesses. Airscanner's Airscanner Mobile Antivirus is available for Windows Mobile 2003SE, 5.0 and Windows Mobile Smartphone 2003SE and 5.0.
