Review of Ilium Software's eWallet 5.0 on Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com!

Ilium Software's eWallet 5.0

One of the long standing advantages of eWallet has been the ability to customize and create virtually any type of card to hold any type of data within your wallet file.  This is no different in version 5.0.  Further, you can categorize those cards to make navigation easier and to allow you to find your information quickly.  To create a new category, tap the Menu>New>Category... menu on your device.  Included in eWallet are several built-in categories for the most common types of cards.  These include such things as credit cards, automobile cards, information cards, Internet cards and password cards.  If you choose one of these built-in categories, the card type will default to one that has the most common fields used for that type of card.  Once you choose the category, card type and icon to represent that category, tap OK and the category is created.

With the category created, adding cards is done by either tapping the Menu>New>Card menu or tapping and holding the category and selecting New Card.  First you will need to select the type of card you want to create.  By default eWallet will choose whatever you setup as the category type as outline before.  Once you choose the card type and tap OK you can begin to fill in the information for the card.  For a credit card you will be prompted for the card provider, the card type, the card number, expiration date and so forth.  If you want, you can customize these field names by tapping-and-holding them.  This gives you the ultimate in flexibility when it comes to storing your information.

As you look at Figure 9, you will note that there are multiple tabs associated with each card.  From these tabs you can change the look of the card, associate a graphic or sound with it and add any notes to the card as well.  It is important to remember that while eWallet comes with many pre-defined card templates available, you can create any card or category to have the application fit your needs.  A good example of this is my own day-to-date wallet file.  In it I have everything for software license key information to credit cards to personal information.

With the changes in version 5.0 of eWallet and improvements around synchronization, it is hard to not love this application.  The high level of customizing you can do with it, the amount of information you can securely store makes it an application that should be a standard part of their Pocket PC or Smartphone installed programs.

eWallet is available in two versions.  The standard version is $19.95 (US) and works only on your Pocket PC.  The Professional version is $29.95 (US) and has the desktop version of the application included.  In this review I used the Professional version and highly recommend it.  If you are a Windows Mobile Smartphone user you can also get eWallet as well in the same versions and the same prices.
