Matter and Motions First Diagramming 1.3

It is obvious that not all flowcharts are the same.  I, for example, need logical flows that deal with program scripting while others may need a decision flow based on input parameters and database accesses.  One of the key features and benefits of First Diagramming is the slew of objects that can be inserted into a diagram.  By tapping the Tools>Shape Library, users can choose which objects they want to appear on the Insert menu.  This makes the application truly customizable to each individuals needs.

In addition to flowcharts, First Diagramming also allows you to create conceptual diagrams as well.  Conceptual diagrams are used primarily as a visual aid for an overall idea but not necessarily at a high level of detail such as a flowchart.  The function of a conceptual diagram are identical in First Diagram.  Like a flowchart you choose the concept object and can adjust and edit it like any object.

Finally, you can change the mode in which you are viewing a diagram between editing, viewing and format.  To change the mode tap the Tools menu and choose which one you need to use.  The edit mode is used for editing the diagram while the viewing mode essentially locks it so it cannot be altered.  The format mode is somewhere between edit and view.  In format mode you can select an object and change the formatting of that object.  This done by choosing the formatting tools on the bottom taskbar which are only enabled in format mode.  To change the format of an object, tap it then choose the line, fill, font or shape menu on the taskbar.  The format mode is a quick and easy way to change your diagram's appearance without having to go through the object's property menu in edit mode.

As you can see, First Diagramming was created with the stylus in mind.  Objects in any diagram can be selected, resized, moved and edited by tapping, dragging and holding of it.  This makes the application extremely easy to use.  Likewise, by tapping-and-dragging in a blank space in your diagram you can move around the diagram easily.

Overall it is hard to fault much in First Diagramming.  It would be nice to see in future releases a zoom feature so you can view a large diagram in it's entirety.  Also, it would be nice to be able to adjust the background of a diagram either with a bitmap or a fill color.  Still, these are "nice to have" features and not necessary.  Everything to make a good flowchart is already in First Diagramming!

First Diagramming, now in version 1.3, is sold through the Matter and Motion website located at http://www.matterandmotion.com.  The price for First Diagramming is $29.95 (US) and can be purchased directly from the Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com! PocketGear store by clicking this link.  If you are a non-profit organization or an academic organization, Matter and Motion does have a special licensing program for you available.  In many cases they will provide a reduced or zero-cost license fee upon verification of your status.  For more information on this program, visit http://www.matterandmotion.com/Community.

If you have a need for developing quick but effective conceptual diagrams or flowcharts, First Diagramming should be strongly considered.  Because it was developed with the stylus in mind, it is a breeze to use!
