Sling Media's SlingPlayer Mobile

It is important to remember that the SlingPlayer Mobile is every bit as functional as the desktop version.  To that end, you can control your DVR fast-forward and rewinding, the different inputs into your Slingbox (Coaxial, S-Video, Composite) as well as set up favorite stations and functions in the player.

The favorite stations are displayed at the bottom of the display and are added by simply tapping-and-holding an empty slot then choosing Add/Edit Channels.  You can then enter the name of the station or choose representative icon for the station.  Once you put in the station number and tap OK, the channel is displayed in the favorites menu.  Now, to change to that channel, simply tap the icon!  This is one of the more popular features of the desktop version of SlingPlayer and it is a welcome site in the mobile edition.

As you can imagine, using SlingPlayer Mobile is much like using the remote control for your television, cable or satellite tuner or DVR.  You can stop and start the player as well as adjust the volume with the icons and slider located in the taskbar area.  Additionally you can switch to a landscape view as well as Control Mode.  Control Mode is used when you are viewing content from your DVR and wish to fast-forward or rewind.  Because of the smaller screen and latency, this can be challenging as you are not in real time with the button pushes.  To compensate for this Control Mode improves the buffering in the SlingPlayer and gives a far more accurate and close to real time response from the DVR controls.

While SlingPlayer Mobile constantly is adjusting for the available bandwidth to provide the highest quality image and sound, custom adjustments to the player can be made via the Player>Player Options menu.  This will allow you to adjust the buffering as well as the SlingStream settings which is the auto adjusting feature of SlingPlayer Mobile.

Overall the SlingPlayer Mobile is outstanding.  The quality of the video and audio are terrific and the easy-of-use of the player means there is virtually no learning curve associated with it.  For any Slingbox owner who uses a Windows Mobile device, this should be a must-have addition to your device!

Like the Slingbox itself and the PC version of SlingPlayer, the SlingPlayer Mobile is supported by Sling Media through an outstanding FAQ and online support section of their site as well as phone support.  Phone support is available Monday-Friday from 7AM-7PM only.

Beginning April 26th, the retail SlingPlayer Mobile software will be available for $29.99 and includes a free 30-day trial. Slingbox owners who purchase and register their Slingbox prior to April 26th will receive a free license for SlingPlayer Mobile. There are no monthly or recurring charges for the use of SlingPlayer Mobile.
