Tweaks2K2 for Windows Mobile Smartphone

Like most Windows Mobile users, Windows Mobile Smartphone users like to have their device fit their needs in the best possible way. Often times this is done through 3rd party applications but the real “gold” is the Registry in every Windows based device. The Registry is where all of the settings of your Smartphone reside, much like that of a Windows based Personal Computer or Pocket PC. The challenge – and warning – is making the correct edits to the registry to improve performance or function without making a wrong adjustment that renders your device useless, forcing you to hard reset it. The registry is not for the faint of heart but can often yield significant enhancements for Smartphone users.

Like the desktop or Pocket PC version, the Smartphone version of Tweaks2K2 allows you to make changes to your Smartphone’s functions, performance and setting by editing the registry for you, preventing you from having to make the edits manually. This not only saves you time but also gives you a safe way to make changes to the registry. 

Tweaks2K2.NET for Smartphone is installed via ActiveSync and requires approximately 310K of storage. The application can be installed either in your Smartphone’s main memory or on a Storage Card if you have one installed. In order to install Tweaks2K2.NET, your Smartphone must be Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 2003SE or Windows Mobile 2005. Once installed and started, Tweaks2K2 has a simple but effective interface with the softkeys as the Exit and Menu buttons.

From the Menu button, you are provide three main areas for tweaking on your Smartphone: System, Internet and Security. As the name suggests, the System tweaks are those adjustments which improve or enhance the basics of your Smartphone. Some of these tweaks including the ability to enable ClearType, change your Smartphone’s ActiveSync ID, improving the display performance and disabling the 3 second delay on rings. While in the System menu, if you tap the Menu button again, you will find more hacks available to you.

It is important to note that some of these features will not be available to you if your provider has locked down your Smartphone. Locking is a method many providers use to prevent applications or adjustments to be made to your device or for you to use it on a competing provider’s network. Some of these locks are for your benefit as they prevent applications from being installed that could impact your ability to use your Smartphone. Others are just annoying! Fortunately in the latest version of Tweaks2K2, you have the ability to unlock your phone as well! This is done by accessing the Security menu. It is important to note that if your provider has locked your SIM card, this tweak will not unlock it.

Keep in mind that this tweak does not work with every phone or provider.  It will only work on phones with weaker security.  It is highly recommended by Clinton Fitch (Dot) Com! and Tweaks2K2 that you download the demo version of the application and verify it will work on your phone and provider before purchasing the application if this is your main objective in purchasing Tweaks2K2.NET for Smarphone.
