The New Nexus’ Wallpapers for 2016

With the new Nexus phones from HTC coming later this year, there is already a fair amount of anticipation of what these two phones, code named Marlin and Sailfish, will bring.  But, for those who like wallpapers, the papers for these two new phones have already been leaked.  Thanks to the team over at Android Police, you can now download 15 new wallpapers for your devices today.  There is a nice mix of themes in them – aquatic, wildlife and fractals – and all look pretty darn spiffy.  I have re-posted the wallpapers here and you can see all of them after the break.  However, you can download from the original source here if you want to do so.

LG Announces The LG V20 Phone Coming in September with Nougat

Today LG has announced that their upcoming flagship device, the LG V20, will be shipping starting in September.  Specifications around the new phone are virtually unknown.  Very few leaks have come out for the V20, a rarity these days, so nobody is 100% sure what the phone will have for a processor/memory combination.  Given it is a flagship, the V20 will likely have the upper end of the Snapdragon processor lineup (8xx) and 3GB of RAM but again, just speculation on my part.  What we do know however, based on this release from LG, is that the V20 will come with Android Nougat installed.

Google Clock Update Prepares for Nougat Support

With Android Nougat now only weeks away from release, developers are starting to prepare their apps for support of the release.  Google is no exception and the latest update to their clock and alarm app, Google Clock, is squarely aimed at getting it ready for Nougat.  The update, which is in the Play Store now, also works on Lollipop and Marshmallow but a lot of the focus is on Nougat to be fair.  In fact, the first thing noted in the Release Notes is support for Nougat.  With that support comes support for multi-screen, the new feature that will come in the release that allows you to view more than one app at a time.  Google Clock will support that natively so you can setup timers or alarms while working on with another app.

Android Nougat Developer Preview 5 Released – Likely The Final One

The Android development team at Google has rolled out what is likely the last Developer Preview for Android Nougat.  The update takes devices to build NPD90G and it is available for all of the Nexus devices that have been a part of the beta testing process.  Those devices include

  • Nexus 5X
  • Nexus 6
  • Nexus 6P
  • Nexus 9
  • Nexus Player
  • Pixel C
  • General Mobile 4G (Android One)

For those how have devices registered in the Android Beta program, the OTA update should be coming to you over the course of the next few hours.  If you want to manually flash your device to the newest build, the images are available already.

HTC Announces Android Nougat Coming to Three Devices

Well that didn’t take long!  HTC has just tweeted that three of their devices will be seeing the Android Nougat release.  For those of you who have an HTC 10, HTC One A9 or HTC One M9, it is a pretty darn spiffy day.

This is great news for sure and while the HTC 10 was almost a lock to get Nougat, seeing on the One A9 and One M9 is great to see too.

Android Nougat Officially Announced

After an online naming suggesting site and countless rumors, we now know the name for the next version of Android.  The Android team tweeted this morning that Android Nougat is the name for the “N” release, ending speculation and probably making more than one person say “I told you so” this morning.

While many thought that this would be the official name, until now we were not 100% sure.  Many had hoped that Nutella would be the name and teasing by Google suggested that was in the running.  But Nougat was one of the first names to be thrown out there and it seems to have stuck.
