Review of The Anker 40w 5 Port USB Charger – Great Desktop Charger for Multiple Devices

If you are like me you have multiple devices on your desk that need to be charged via USB.  Using your laptop’s USB ports is fine when you are on the road but at home or in the office, that can be a bit of a challenge.  First you usually don’t have enough ports on your laptop and secondly, they don’t necessarily charge your devices that fast.  Anker has been making power accessories for devices since 2012 and was founded by a group of Googlers.  Their solutions bring an elegance and style to what is very much a utilitarian need of our modern world.  The Anker 40w 5 Port USB desktop charger is no exception.  This simple but stylish desktop accessory allows you to charge up to 5 USB devices at once yet does it in a sleek, slim designed hub that sits nicely on any desk.  At only $25.99 and available directly from Amazon, it is also a great value.

The Anker 40w 5 Port charger is promoted as a “family-sized” desktop charger and it certainly could fit that need.  The hub is powered by AC with each of the 5 ports putting out a maximum of 5v and 2.4Amps.  The total output is 8Amps so if you have 5 devices connected to the hub it will start to trickle charge some of your devices.  In my case I have my Toshiba Encore 2 Windows Tablet, my

Lumia 1320 and my Plantronics Voyager Legend Bluetooth headset always connected for charging.  When it needs it, my Fitbit Flex is also connected so I generally have one port open all the time.  For me, this means that I don’t really bump into the 8Amp limit.

Physically, the Anker 40w 5 Port charger is a small 3.6″ x 2.3″ x 1″ (LxHxD) and weighs 4.6 ounces.  Anker specifically designed this to be for the desktop and if you need portable power, Anker makes plenty of solutions for you in that arena.  I personally have the Astro Mini 3200mAh external battery and love it.

I’ve been using the Anker 40w 5 Port charger now for about 2 months and have found it to be a great addition to my desktop.  Because I now have all of my USB devices plugged into a single point, I have far better cable management and frankly, it just looks better than having my laptop look like a squid with multiple USB cables coming out of it.

The Anker 40w 5 Port Family-Sized Desktop charger is available exclusively through Amazon and is currently on sale for $25.99.  It is also Amazon Prime eligible if you are a Prime Member.  It is also available in black or white finishes.
