Three of the MSN apps for Windows Phone have seen updates but unlike previous updates, we actually get a clue as to what was added or fixed! The MSN Sports, MSN Travel and MSN Weather for Windows Phone apps have all seen updates that bring either performance improvements or bug fixes to each of them. The updates, version 220.127.116.117 for MSN Travel and MSN Weather apps and 18.104.22.1686 for the MSN Sports app for those keeping score at home, are available now in the Windows Phone store. As these are all universal apps by definition in our Windows 8.1 world, these updates likely will make their way to the Windows App Store as well. As of this writing, only MSN Travel was listed as an update.
For MSN Sports, the update squarely focuses on performance improvements in this update. What exactly was done to the app to improve the performance is not laid out in the Release Notes.
As for MSN Travel, it sees the generic “bug fixes” in the Release Notes but again, what specifically was addressed in the app is not reported. Finally, for MSN Weather for Windows Phone, we get a little bit more detail of what was addressed. It too sees Performance improvements but also gets an update for the Live Tile feature of the app. This is the second straight update of MSN Weather for Windows Phone that specifically addresses the Live tile, something that Microsoft clearly is wanting to improve the performance of in this app. Frankly it is needed as I often find that the app does not update consistently and even requires me to go into the app to somewhat “kick start” the Live tile to update. I’ve seen this on both my Lumia 1320 and Lumia 635 (which is running Windows 10 for Phones)
As with all of the MSN apps, these updates are free and the apps themselves are free.
