Microsoft To Release 34 Optional Windows Updates Today

Although we have already had a Patch Tuesday for April, Microsoft is still busy releasing updates for their various platforms.  Today it is expect we will see no less than 34 updates for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows RT.  Yes, you read that correctly. completed or new vulnerabilities being discovered between last Tuesday and today.  Ultimately thought it is a bit strange for Microsoft to have such a massive update outside of their normal patch cycles.

As for when you can expect the updates to hit your Windows PC or tablet, that answer is now. I checked this morning and I have 13 updates available for me, mostly around .NET improvements but there are others in the mix too.  As you can see in the screenshot to the right, it is about a 1GB download for me to get all the updates and I’m confident a reboot will be required at some point in the process.

If you have automatic updates enabled you may already have some of the updates installed.  If not, go to Control Panel> System and Security>Windows Update on your Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 PC to check, download and install the updates.
