OpenTable for Android Updated with Improved Google Maps Integration

OpenTable has updated their app for Android today, bringing significantly improved integration with Google Maps.  The update to OpenTable for Android, version 4.4.2.1170 for those keeping score at home, is available now in the Google Play store.  It is designed for both Android phones and tablets. For those not familar with OpenTable, it is a service-meets-app that allows you to find restaurants near you and make bookings at them for that day or in the future.  Each time you dine you get points which can be redeemed for discounts at any restaurant who is in the OpenTable program.  I have used the app for years and it is a great way to find a place to eat if you are not familiar with the city you happen to be visiting or even at home to get a table at that popular restaurant.

The big change in this update to OpenTable for Android is the improved integration with Google Maps.  Now when you go to the restaurant’s profile page in the app, you can get directions from your location to the restaurant.  Until this update, you could see where the restaurant was in the app but not necessarily get directions to it.

The second new update is the ability to call the restaurant directly from the profile page.  Before you could see the number but it would not call it.  You had to copy & paste it into the Phone app.  This makes it much easier to call a restaurant as it is literally a tap away.

There is nothing else mentioned in the release notes as far as any fixes or improvements but as these things tend to go, you can assume there are some under-the-hood updates to improve the app.

OpenTable for Android is free and you will need a free OpenTable account to use the app to its fullest.
