American Airlines App Update with new My Account Section and General Improvements

The American Airlines app for Android has been updated with several improvements and features in the latest update.  Through the app you can now make 500 mile upgrade purchases and enjoy a completely revamped My Account section in the app.  The update, version 4.1 for those keeping score at home, continues to have the ability to get your boarding passes on your device as well as easily track your AAdvantage frequent flyer status without having to touch a browser.

The big news in this update to the American Airlines app is the improved My Account section.  Previously it was very busy with AAdvantage account information and was quite pixelated as it essentially was pulling the information from the AA.com website.  This update makes it more native with a much cleaner interface that allows you to tap various sections of the app to get more detailed information.  That detail is formatted for mobile devices so it is much cleaner looking.

If you have your credit card stored on your American Airlines profile (or enter it into the app) you can now make 500 mile upgrade purchases within the app and not have to go to the American website or to the ticket counter at the airport (which is more expensive).  For those not familiar, American allows economy customers to upgrade to the next class of service by using 500 mile upgrades.  For every 500 miles of travel, you will need one upgrade voucher/token.

Finally, there are a lot of general improvements and performance enhancements within this update to the app.  As a long time American Airlines customer (you can see in the screenshot that I’m a Million Miler) I personally appreciate the updates but anyone who travels will find that this app is generally pretty solid when compared to other airline apps.
