Project Fi App Update Brings Outage Notifications

For subscribers to Project Fi, there is a new version of the app for Android available.  The update is version G.1.7.12 for those keeping score at home and while it brings some bug fixes and stability improvements, it also adds a key feature:  Notifications of service outages.

I have been using Project Fi on my Nexus 6 for a couple of months now and while I have not been impacted by an outage, there have been issues in the past like any other carrier (especially a new one like Fi).  To this point, in order to find out about an issue, you can to email, call or chat with the Fi team which can be a bit more time consuming.  Now that requirement is gone as you will get notifications of any outages right within the app.

If you are curious about Project Fi, you can read my review of the service to see what my experience has been like with it.

Project Fi App Continues To Be The Source of Information

One of the real strengths of Fi is the app for Android Phone.  You can check your usage, change your plan, see previous bills and make contact with the support team if you need help.  You can do just about everything you need

to do with your service from it and that is one of the strengths of the service.  With this update and getting notifications of issues, it rounds out the app just that much further, making it truly indispensable for subscribers.

If there is one thing I would love to see added to the app it would be the ability to have a chat session directly from the app.  Currently you have to go to the Fi website to communicate with the support team in this medium.

The update to the Project Fi app is out in the Google Play Store now and you should receive the OTA update over the course of the next few days if you haven’t already.

Anyone, including those not running a Nexus 5X, 6P or 6, can install the app and check it out and of course you can sign up for service at fi.google.com
