Android Marshmallow Released for the Blackberry Priv

For owners of the Blackberry Priv, today is a good day.  Starting today, the Android Marshmallow update for the device is rolling out with all of the goodness of the release itself along with improvements to Priv specific features and apps.  The update is just now rolling out so it will take some time to reach everyone.  For those who are on carrier locked devices like those on T-Mobile and AT&T, the roll out starts next Tuesday, May 3rd.

The update moves the device from Lollipop to Marshmallow 6.0.1 and has the March security update from Google along with it.  In addition, Blackberry has made security improvements around

the update which allows users to give apps specific permissions or disable them.  Blackberry has also improved the user hub for the Priv, specifically bringing secure email.  The hub is a separate app on the Priv so it will still have to be launched on its own but for the ultimate level of security, which this device is aimed to provide, it is where users will want to go for that secure email along with other messaging services and apps.  Blackberry has also improved the camera app in the Priv, speeding it up a bit and making some other general improvements to it.
