Google Photos Update Brings Photo Sorting in Albums

Google Photos has been updated for Android and with it comes a long requested feature of the app.  Version 2.0 is out now in the Play Store and if you have the app already installed, you will get an OTA update for it over the course of the next few days.  The new feature?  The ability to permanently organize photos in albums.

Prior to this release, photos in an album could be moved around but they could not be sorted automatically (say oldest to newest).  This update to Google Photos brings that feature.

Using the new feature is pretty easy.  Just go into Albums then open the album you want to edit.  Now go to the overflow menu and select Edit Album.  On the taskbar at the top of the screen you

will see a new up/down arrow icon.  This is your new sort icon.  Tap it and you can sort the photos in the album by oldest first, newest first or recently added.  It is a powerful new features and as a Google Top Contributor in Google Photos, I can tell you that this was one of the most requested features in the forums.

Along with this new feature, there is the normal smattering of bug fixes and overall improvements.

If you haven’t tried Google Photos for your photo storage and editing needs, you can download it in the Play Store for free.
