Tango Powered Lenovo Phab 2 Pro Now Available

As expected, Lenovo has come to market with the first Project Tango enabled phone.  The 6.4″ Phab 2 Pro can be purchased directly from the manufacture for $499.99 and for the price, it is certainly feature packed.  For those who may not recall what exactly Project Tango is from Google, it is devices and apps that work in augmented reality.  These apps and now the Phab 2 Pro allow you to do thing like measure distances, fly through the solar system and other things all from the device.  A good example is the Lowe’s Vision app for Tango. It allows you to measure a space in your house and virtually put an appliance or other furniture you buy from Lowes in your house.

As for the Phab 2 Pro, you are getting a lot of horsepower in the package from Lenovo, starting with the 6.4″ display that renders 2560 x 1440.  Coupled with this is the Snapdragon 652 octa-core process running at 1.8GHz.

The phablet comes with 4GB of RAM to go along with the snappy processor and you have 64GB of onboard storage.  That storage can be expanded thanks to the MicroSD card slot up to an additional 200GB.  Camera wise, you have a 16MP main camera while

the front facing camera is 8MP.  From a battery perspective, you have a 4050mAh battery powering the phone which should get you through the day.

The Phab 2 Pro will be an interesting phone to watch over the course of the next few months as will other Tango enabled phones that come to the market in the next couple of quarters.  The battle between Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality is certainly a burning one at the moment and it is still up for grabs which one will ultimately win – if ever.  While the use cases for Project Tango are limited now – there are only 35 enable apps to go along with this phone – you can expect that number to increase too as more devices come to the market.
