Netflix Update Allows Content Downloads to SD Cards

Netflix has made a few big changes to their Android app these last few months.  First came the ability to download movies and TV shows to your phone or tablet for viewing offline.  Now, and equally as important for some, today’s update brings the ability to store that offline content on an SD card.  The update is version 4.13.0 Build 14540 for those keeping score at home and it is rolling out now in the Play Store.  Once you have the update, when you want to download a movie or show, you will be asked where you want to store that content.  Select your SD card if your phone has one and off you go.  The content is downloaded to your card instead of your device’s main storage.

The change is a big deal for those who have devices with 16GB or less of storage built into their phones as you now don’t have to sacrifice other content or apps to create room to store the movie you

want to watch on that flight or road trip.  Equally, given that many devices now accept up to 256GB storage cards, you can store a lot of movies or TV shows without having to think much of it.

Along with the new download location feature, Netflix indicates there are a few bug fixes that will make the upgrade worthwhile for everyone.  If you have the app, the OTA update should be coming to you soon.  If you haven’t installed it, you can download the app for free and sign up for a subscription in the app.
