Lenovo Yoga Book Gets Android Nougat Update

Good news this afternoon for those of you who, like me, have the Lenovo Yoga Book.  The long awaited update to Android Nougat is now available.  The 1.39GB update is build YB1-X90F_17902 for those keeping score at home and brings a lot of updates and changes beyond the Nougat update.  The OTA is rolling out now and should be hitting devices over the course of the next few days.

The Nougat update for the Yoga Book was planned by Lenovo but it was not slated to hit until October.

First, Android Nougat.  The Yoga Book update takes it to Nougat 7.1.1 so you have all of the benefits that it brings.  It is also updated to the June 2017 Android Security Patch.  That’s not so great but hopefully it’ll get updated soon.

Next, there are changes to some of the apps that are pre-installed on the Lenovo Yoga Book.  First, the McAfee app is no longer supported and not installed in this update.  Second, the NoteSaver app has been updated significantly.  There is an updated user interface, optimizations for sharing and functionality has been added to sync your notes with your Evernote account.  The ability to sync notes to

Evernote properly makes the Yoga Book’s note taking from pen input truly useful now.  Lastly, the wonky Lenovo work around for multitasking has been eliminated and instead, the tablet now leverages Nougat’s native multitasking.  This, too, makes this update a must have for owners.

This is a big update and one that owners of the Yoga Book will want to get installed immediately.  Just make sure you are connected up to Wi-Fi and are either plugged into AC or have at least 50% battery life to do the install.  The upgrade process on mine, from download to reboot, took about 20 minutes.

For those who may not be familiar with it, the Lenovo Yoga Book is a 2-in-1 ultra thin Android tablet.  It has a 10″ full HD display, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage (that can be expanded) and weighs just 1.5 lbs.  It has a stunning 15 hour battery life and has a unique Halo keyboard.  This keyboard also becomes a writing tablet with the pen.  It is an impressive tablet that I find allows me to be amazingly productive while on the road or in meetings.  You can get one on Amazon for under $300.
