Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 Launched with Stunning Bezel-Less Design

While it is unclear if the rest of the world will see the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, one thing is certain about this new phone.  It is stunningly beautiful.  The Chinese manufacture pulled the covers back on the replacement for last year’s Mi MIX 2 today in Beijing and it features a near bezel-less 5.9″ display and an eye watering 6GB of RAM.

The Mi MIX 2 features an 18:9 ratio screen that renders 1080 x 2160 on the 5.9″ display in an all aluminum chassis.  It is powered by the Snapdragon 835 octa-core processor and coupled with 6GB of RAM.  Storage will be between 64GB, 128GB and 256GB options.  It has a 12MP rear camera and a 5MP selfie camera and is powered by a 3400 mAh battery.  All impressive specs no matter how you look at it.

The phone will come out of the box running Android Nougat 7.1.1 but an upgrade to Oreo is expected at some point in 2018.

If there is a hint that the Mi MIX 2 could make its way out of China and into Europe or North America, it would be the LTE bands.  The phone supports 43 LTE bands out of the box which is going to make it work virtually anywhere on the planet.

As for pricing, the breakdown is roughly:

  • $506 for the 64GB model
  • $552 for the 128GB model
  • $613 for the 256GB model

Xiaomi also announced that a special edition of the phone will be available.  It will be carved out of a single block of ceramic, will have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.  That model will be roughly $721 and almost certainly won’t make it outside of China.
