Minor Stable Channel Update for Chrome OS Released

An incremental update to Chrome OS has been released by the Chromium team and is starting to roll out to devices.  The updated version is build 63.0.3239.116 (Platform version: 10032.75.0) and Google indicates that the majority of Chrome OS devices will get the update over the course of the next few days.

As is often the case with these midstream updates, there are not a lot of details available on what was addressed or fixed.  Rather, we simply get the generic “This build contains a number of bug fixes and security updates”.

As always, you can simply wait for the update to come to your Chromebook but if you want to force it to find the update, just type chrome://help in the omnibar and then click the Check for Update button.  If it is available for your device, it will start downloading it.  If you decide to wait, it will probably be a week or so before everyone gets the update.

In case you missed it, Chrome 63 is already protected against the Intel vulnerability that was discovered this week.  If you are on Chrome 62 or earlier on your Chromebook, you’ll need to adjust a flag to protect your data which is outlined here.
