Microsoft Edge for Android Update Brings Personalization and Default Browser Improvements

Microsoft Edge for Android, the Redmond, Washington company’s mobile variant of their Windows 10 browser, has a new update that brings some improvements for personalization.  The new build is version 1.0.0.1656 for those keeping score at home.

With this update, you can now more personalize the Newsfeed on the New Tab in Microsoft Edge.  Support has been added for the language and geographical area for news feeds.  By default, this will be set to the language and region you are in but by going to Settings>New Tab Page, you can have the news feed in different regions and languages.

Another new feature in this update to Edge is a wizard that makes it easier to set the browser as your default browser on your phone.  This wizard will only appear when Edge is not your default browser.  It will walk you through where to go on your phone to set it as the default, even providing a single tap button to open up the appropriate settings on your phone.

As always, there is the normal smattering of bug fixes and performance improvements in this update.

If you have Edge installed on your phone, you should see the OTA update to this new build over the course of the next few days.  If you haven’t tried out Edge, it is free and syncs very well with the desktop version in Windows 10, including the ability to start working on the mobile version and move it to your desktop with a single tap.
