Oreo Beta Testing Opens for The Nokia 3

While the attention on Nokia this weekend and this week will be their activities at Mobile World Congress, it doesn’t mean that things are standing still back home.  HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas took to Twitter in the wee hours of the morning here in the US to let people know that the Android Oreo beta program for the Nokia 3 has now kicked off.

It is great news and follows up on Nokia’s promise last year to bring Oreo to all of their current devices, including the budget friendly Nokia 3.

In order to sign up for the beta, you need to go to the Nokia Beta Labs site and sign up.  You’ll need to register for an account if you don’t have one and submit your IMEI number.  If you are selected, you will get the beta build pushed down to your phone via an OTA update over the following few hours.  The update is about 1.6GB in size according to reports so you will certainly have to download it via WiFi.

With the beta testing now in progress, the next obvious question is when will it be released to the general public.  If previous Nokia betas are any indication, it will likely be another 3-4 weeks assuming that all goes well with the beta itself.
