A new cloud-side update to Microsoft Translator for Android is rolling out that brings support for six new languages. So long as you have the latest version of the app installed, version 3.2.254, then you will have the new languages available to you. These new text-to-speech languages include:
- Bulgarian
- Croatian
- Malay
- Slovenian
- Tamil
- Vietnamese
These additions bring the total number of text-to-speech languages supported to 36 in Microsoft Translator.
Microsoft, in their announcement about the new languages, indicated that support for them is available now in the Translator app for Android, Translator for Bing, and both the Text and Speech APIs for Translator. Support for the languages in the app for iOS will be coming shortly.
Similar in functionality to Google Translate, Microsoft’s app offers text-to-speech as well as conversational translation within the app. There are over 60 languages supported overall in the app with most of them available offline through a dictionary download, the same as Google’s app. There is also an Android Wear app for the app so you can translate from your watch on-the-go. You can also pin frequently used translations within the app to make them quickly available again and again.
The app is a free download in the Play Store.
