Apple iTunes Now Available in the Microsoft Store for Windows 10

After months of anticipation and delays, Apple iTunes is now officially available in the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 users.  The iTunes app is identical to the independent download that you have access to today but is managed through the Store for updates and all the benefits of being in the store.

The app leverages Microsoft’s Desktop Bridge technology which allows for traditional Windows desktop apps to be integrated and managed through the Microsoft Store.

For administrators, this is a big win.  Many enterprise users on Windows 10 will only allow apps from the Microsoft Store to be installed on desktops as they are pre-scanned for malware and it is generally easier from a management perspective.  For iPhone users on Windows 10, that was a big roadblock.  Further, if a Windows Laptop is in S mode, which only allows for apps from the Microsoft Store to be installed, it was a big roadblock for consumers.  This update should eliminate both roadblocks for enterprises and consumers.

Once you have iTunes installed, you have all the normal syncing-of-your-phone features as well as access to Apple Music.  Updates to iTunes will be handled through the Microsoft Store going forward so you will get any updates from Apple through the store and not an additional side process.
