Huawei Mate 10 Pro, P20, and Sony Xperia XZ2 Pick Up Netflix HDR Support

Netflix has expanded the list of phones that support their HDR streaming today, bringing the total number of phones supported it up to ten.  The Huawei Mate 10 Pro and the P20 have been added today along with the Sony Xperia XZ2.  All three of these phones have HDR compatible displays.

Given that more manufactures are enabling HDR displays on their devices, the list supported devices will likely grow over the course of this year.

If you are curious as to which devices Netflix support for HDR, they have listed them out:

  • Huawei Mate 10 Pro
  • Huawei P20
  • LG V30
  • Razer Phone
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 8
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab S3
  • Samsung Galaxy S9
  • Sony Xperia XZ Premium
  • Sony Xperia XZ1
  • Sony Xperia XZ2

If you have one of these devices, in order to view streaming content in HDR, you need to have a Premium account which includes Ultra HD (UHD) support.  That is $13.99/month and gives you the benefit of downloading content onto four devices.

Keep in mind also that HDR content right now is still limited when you compare it to HD content so your favorite movie or TV show may not be available in the format just yet.  Netflix, like other content providers, are working with studios to get that support on more content.
