Google Gboard Update Brings New Languages and Improved GIF Tools

Google Gboard, the keyboard app from the Mountain View company, has a new update rolling out that brings some improvements and new language support.  The updated build is version 7.31 for those keeping score at home and should be widely available at this point.

A few months ago, in May, Gboard gained the ability to create your own GIFs using your phone’s camera.  With this update, you can add text to your GIF.  This allows you to make them a bit more personalized.

The rest of the changes in this update to Google Gboard circle around languages.  The ability to search for stickers has been in the keyboard app for a while now and Google expanded that search ability to 15 more languages in the app.  Further, an additional 28 languages have been added to the app.  These include  Bagri, Batak Toba, Bench, Bhili, Capiznon, Chavacano, Eastern Min, Fiji Hindi, Ge’ez, Gurani, Ingush, Karachay, Khorasani Turkic, Kipsigis, Maharashtrian Konkani, Lezgian, Mizo, Maguindanao, Malay (Brunei), Maranao, Southern Min, Northern Sami, Qashqa’i, Rinconada Bikol, Surjapuri, Tausug, Upper Saxon, Vasavi

The addition of these languages adds to the dozens that have already been added thus far in 2018.  In fact, this year along, Google has added some 50 languages to the app.  That comes on top of 28 they added in December 2017 alone.  Google has stated they want Gboard to be as universal as possible when it comes to languages and clearly are working to make that a reality.
