Swarm for Windows Phone Updated with New Features

Swarm for Windows Phone has been updated with several new features including the ability to search your check-in history from within the app.  The update, version 1.2.0.16 for those keeping score, is available now in the Windows Phone store online or through the Store app on your phone.

If you aren’t familiar with it, Swarm is the check-in and meet up app from Foursquare.  This is the dedicated app for such activities after Foursquare separated it from the original Foursquare app which is more about localized content now.  I’m personally not a big fan of the separated apps but I embraced the horror a few months back and have moved along.

Skype for Windows Phone Update Brings Doodling

The latest update to the Skype for Windows Phone app has just gone live in the Windows Phone Store and it brings a very cool new doodling feature.  The update, version 2.24.0.111 for those keeping score, brings several new features including the new drawing function.  There is also support for HD screens and improved third-party app access to Skype amongst the new features.

First and foremost with the new app, which is universal for Windows and Windows Phone, is the new drawings function.  Now you can add a drawing to a message by tapping the + icon next to where you normally type then select Share Drawing.  On your Windows PC, Tablet or Windows Phone, draw out your message or picture then send it.  You can also send annotated maps.

Facebook for Windows Phone Update Brings Performance Improvements

The official Facebook for Windows Phone app has been updated with a minor release today, bringing performance improvements and other minor fixes to the app.  For those keeping score, it is version 8.3.3.0 and it is available now in the Windows Phone Store.

The majority of the big updates to Facebook for Windows Phone came with v8.3 and the minor dot updates have generally focused on app performance improvements and bug fixes.  What that means is if you are looking for something new & exciting in the app… well, keep looking peeps.  There’s nothing to see here.

That said, the app does seem a bit faster than the previous build in my non-scientific “yep, looks faster” playing with the app this morning.  Likewise, I was not impacted by any issues on the app so what bug fixes are in this update are a bit of a mystery to me.

Facebook for Windows Phone is free and available in the Windows Phone Store now.  You will need a Facebook account in order to use the app.

Foursquare launches Swarm for Windows Phone

We knew this day was coming and it has arrived for Windows Phone.  Foursquare has now launched Swarm for Windows Phone, taking the check-in process away from the original Foursquare app and moving it to a separate app.  Now if you have been reading my other blog, AlliOSNews, you know that I’m not thrilled about this prospect.  I personally don’t like Swarm.  I’m fine with where Foursquare is trying to take the Foursquare app and what they are trying to do with Swarm but why do we need two apps?

Facebook for Windows Phone Gets Updated

The Facebook for Windows Phone app has received a significant update today that brings an improved layout for the UI and a major boost in performance, particularly on slower Windows Phones.  The update, v5.3 for those keeping score, looks more native to Windows Phone than the previous version and Facebook Messenger is now supported in the app.  This is an interesting development given that Facebook is pushing iOS users to a standalone Messenger app (which is also available for Windows Phone).
