Google Pay Adds 80 New Financial Institutions to Kick Off 2018

If there were doubts in your mind about the growth of Google Pay, formerly Android Pay, halting in the new year, rest easy.  Kicking off 2018 right, the pay service from Google added 80 new institutions today to the roster that support the service with their debit and credit cards.  With these new additions, there are now a whopping 1,196 banks and credit unions that support Google Pay.

The new additions, as has been the case for a while now under the Android Pay moniker, are mostly regional and local institutions.  The big national banks supported the service in the early days.

Fandango App Update Brings Google Pay Payment Option

There is a new update rolling out to the Fandango app this morning.  The only change, outside of bug fixes and stability improvements, is the app now indicates support for Google Pay.

If you don’t remember, Google Pay was announced at CES last week as a single payment solution for sending money to friends, making retail store purchases, online purchases and in app purchases.  It is a merging of Android Pay and Google Wallet.  Fandango was one of the apps mentioned that would have it in short order and it is now live.

Android Pay and Google Wallet Merged to Form Google Pay

Today at CES, Google announced that they are merging Android Pay and Google Wallet into a new app & service, Google Pay.  Google Pay will be the one-stop solution for making purchases online, at retailers, and through in-app purchases such as those found in Airbnb and Fandango.

The new solution has been in the works for the past year according to the Mountain View company and it will not only allow for you to make purchases but to also send funds to friends & family.  That’s the Google Wallet part of the equation for those who don’t recall.
