Nokia Ace Rumored to be Coming to AT&T and Verizon Early in 2012

Been a bit of a busy day for Nokia.  First the Lumia 710 gets a global launch and now rumors are surfacing that the next Nokia Windows Phone, the Ace, is headed to AT&T and Version early next year.

The rumor, published over at WMPoweruser, points to a source that indicates that the new Nokia Ace will be LTE ready, will have a 4.3″ screen, 8MP camera and 16GB of storage.  Indications are that AT&T is guaranteed the device but Verizon is pushing hard to get it as well.  Finally, the tipster says that Nokia is pushing for a January release but it will likely be mid-March before it gets to your local AT&T or Verizon store.

It is clear that Nokia is pushing hard on Windows Phone (they kinda have to right?) but it is also clear that AT&T is making some best with the OS as well.

MobilityMinded Discusses How To Force an App Update in Windows Phone

Ever read about an update for an app on Windows Phone on a blog then go to your phone, tap Marketplace only to find that it isn’t there for you?  It can be a bit frustrating but there is a way around it.  Fellow MVP Johan van Mierlo over at MobilityMinded has posted a great How To article on forcing Marketplace on your Windows Phone to update an app.  It is a pretty cool – and simple actually – trick that can get the latest bits to your phone.

In trying out the trick myself, I found it works great on my LG Optimum and Samsung Focus.

Weather Channel App for Windows Phone Gets Updated

The Weather Channel has released an update to their popular Weather app in the Windows Phone Marketplace.  The new 1.10.0 version is still free and from the description in Marketplace, it is unclear what was addressed, added for fixed.  Why?  Well, there is no description of what is new in the update. At. All.

Having worked with it a bit this morning, the only thing I noticed is that it is significantly smoother transitioning from page-to-page in the app.  In the previous build the app would hesitate as you swiped to different parts of it.  Now it is much more smooth.  Beyond this, I have not found anything new but if you do, let me know in the comments below or on Twitter.

If you don’t have The Weather Channel App on your Windows Phone, here is the link to it in Marketplace.  The app takes advantage of the improved Live tiles and requires Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango)

Halo Atlas Coming To Windows Phone for Free – iPhone? Not so much…

When Halo Waypoint for Windows Phone was updated around the Mango release, the plan was for it to have an Atlas included.  As we all know, that didn’t happen but good news is coming on Saturday.  That is when Halo ATLAS is to be released in the Marketplace.

Halo ATLAS will bring top-down views maps of the worlds in Halo:Reach and Halo:Anniversary editions.  In addition, here are some of the things you can expect to see as well

  • Weapon and vehicle spawn locations for Matchmaking and Firefight games.
  • Health pack locations.
  • Near-real-time locations for weapons and vehicles during Custom Multiplayer games.
  • Your location and that of your team members displayed on the map.
  • ‘Follow me’ mode to track your movement.
  • Dynamic player list, including current score for the teams and each player and equipped weapon for you and your teammates.
Overall, not bad for you Halo fans out there.
For Windows Phone fans you can expect to see this as a part of Halo Waypoint on December 10th.  The app will also be available for iPhone & Android users but…. it’ll cost you $4.99.
