Multiple Sony Xperia Phones Seeing Android Nougat Updates Rolling Out

Sony has begun rolling out the Android Nougat update to some of the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z5 lineup.  The Xperia Z5 and Z5 Premium started seeing the update to the 7.0 build yesterday while today, the Xperia Z3+ and Z3+ Dual started having the update roll out to them.  The update will take several weeks to get to everyone but you can always manually check for it by going to Settings>About Phone>Software Update.  In general, you can expect the download of the update to be about 1.5GB for the phones and the update time will take 15-20 minutes including a reboot.  Once you have it installed, you will have all the goodies that come with Nougat along with some improvements in the Sony apps on the phones.

If you don’t remember what’s all in Nougat, you can take a look at my review for the highlights.

Android N Beta Comes to Select Xperia Z3 Devices

Just a day after releasing the Android Marshmallow update for the Xperia Z3, Sony has announced that owners of select models of the phone can download and test the Android N Technical Preview on their devices now, months ahead of its official release.  The news means that Google has expanded the boarders of the Android N preview far wider than any other previous beta of the Operating System and Sony could well be the first of many manufactures who open up a similar program.

Sony Releases Android Marshmallow for Xperia Z2 and Z3

After a lengthy beta program for the Xperia Z2 and Z3, Sony has announced they have begun rolling out the Android Marshmallow update to the wider lineup of those devices, including those that were not in the beta program.  The update is firmware build 23.5.A.0.570 for those keeping score and brings these devices up to Marshmallow 6.0.1.  Owners of the Z2 or Z3 should start seeing the update come to them via an OTA update in the coming days.
