Review of HP Chromebook 11 G4 – Solid Build & Performance

At the end of last year, HP announced they were updating the majority of their Chromebook lineup with improved processors and overall improvements.  Of those, the Chromebook 11 G3 was one that was upgraded and the new Chromebook 11 G4 was released in November 2015.  The smallest of the HP lineup of Chromebooks, the 11 G4 starts at a budget friendly $199 which puts it in the middle of stiff competition from the likes of Acer, Asus and others.

I have been using the Chromebook 11 G4 as my primary computer over the course of the last 10 days and in this price range, it is one of the best built Chromebooks I have used.  It feels like a proper laptop, not a plastic toy, and it has the performance overall to meet almost anyone’s needs.  While it isn’t perfect – the display and battery life are areas of concern – it is a solid enough performer for me to recommend it if you are looking for a 11″ Chromebook.

Here is my review.

ZTE Launches the Blade V7 and Blade V7 Lite

ZTE has introduced two new Android phones at MWC today, the Blade V7 and Blade V7 Lite.  The two devices have very similar specifications with the V7 aimed at being the premium version of the two. It sports a 5.2″ display, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage along with a octa-core processor running at 1.3 GHz.  The V7 Lite will have a quad-core processor but will have the same 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. It was also announced that the V7 will have a 13MP rear camera and 5MP front camera.  Both devices will be running Android Marshmallow

Sony Announces The Xperia X Series

I will admit that these are the kinds of Press Release that make me a little crazy.  Sony at MWC today announced the new Xperia X series, a lineup of new Android phones that includes three new devices, the Xperia X, Xperia X Performance and Xperia XA, but there were scarcely any details given about the devices.  While the Xperia X Peformance will run a Snapdragon 802 processor and has a 5″ display, there is virtually nothing else known about these devices.  I’m sure as the day progresses we will get more details but to not have the basics in the Presser is… aye.

Alcatel Launches The POP Series of Android Phones

At MWC today, Alcatel made another device announcement this morning.  Yesterday they announced the new IDOL 4 and IDOL 4S while today they announced the even more budget friendly POP series.  In all, there are three devices in the POP series:  The POP 4, POP 4+ and the POP 4S.  The 4S is the premium version of the devices with a 13 MP rear camera and 5MP front while the 4 and 4+ have a 8 MP rear shooter. Likewise, you will find that the 4S has an octa-core processor while the 4 and 4+ have a quad-core.

If you are in the need of a desktop multi-port USB charger, there is a great deal over at Amazon for you today.  The Anker PowerPoint 6 Lite, 6-Port USB 30W charger is only $16.99 today as part of the online retailer’s Today’s Deals program.  Normally priced at $49.99, this desktop charger is designed to allow you to charge up to six devices at once, providing up to 2.4W per port to charge your devices fast and efficently.  I personally used the Anker 5-port USB charger (the one released before this model) and I reviewed it last year.  That unit I rated at 4.8 out of 5 stars and both me & my wife use them at our desktops.
