OnePlus One To Get Lollipop 5.1 This Month

OnePlus One owners today got a bit of mixed news from the Chinese manufacture when it comes to Lollipop 5.1 updates.  The good news is if you are on Cyanogen as your Android build, you are likely a matter of days or weeks away.  For those however who opted to run the OxygenOS you will have to wait a bit longer as all resources within the company are focused on their next generation of device, the OnePlus 2.  The news came from the OnePlus forums and was posted by Helen, one of the staff members of the company.

First the good news.  If you are running Cyanogen, CM 12.1 (the Lollipop 5.1 build) is currently undergoing testing and is being certified by Google.  This is a key step to any release being made and equally it shows that they are well down the path of getting 5.1 to everyone.

Now the wait for it news…

Review of My Data Manager for Android – Manage Your Date Usage Each Month Easily

There was a point not so many years ago that there were data plans from mobile providers that were unlimited data consumption.  Then the Internet got big and apps came into being and suddenly the mobile providers were having their networks crushed under the onslaught of data being pushed to mobile devices.  The solution was to limit the amount of included data or, in some cases, cap at a certain level.  That is where an app like My Data Manager for Android comes in handy.

My Data Manager is an app that allows you to set your weekly or monthly thresholds on your data plan and keeps track of how much data you are using.  But it even smart enough to monitor how much WiFi you are using (because there are places you still have to pay for that for some reason – you reading this airports and hotels of the world?) and even your roaming amounts which can be really expensive if you over use while abroad.  It’s an impressive little app that is easy to use and configure and gives you alerts when you are getting close to your data limit.  If you have a limited amount of data you can use each month, My Data Manager for Android.

Apple Announces Apple Music for Android

Today in San Francisco, Apple announced that Apple Music for Android will be coming in July as part of a larger announcement that the company made around iTunes.  The new service is a subscription model where you can pay $9.99 per month (or up to 6 people on the same account for $14.99 per month) will be yet another offering for Android customers but the question will be if it is too late.  There are certainly some advantages to having Apple Music on Android devices, namely the Apple catalog of music which is hard to beat.

OnePlus One Sale Last Week is Permanent This Week

Last week I posted that OnePlus, the Chinese manufacture who produces the OnePlus One, announced a sale at specific times all of last week.  Now the company has made those price drops permanent for everyone.  Starting today you can get the 16GB model of only $249 while the 64GB model is $299.  For the quality of the OnePlus One and the specifications, this is absolutely a steal and I personally cannot recommend this phone highly enough.  It has become my daily driver since my review of it and while I’m anxious to see what the anticipated OnePlus Two will offer, I’m quite pleased with the One and its performance.
