BLU Releases Pure XR with 4GB of RAM for $299

Florida based BLU Products has announced and released their latest phone and it is pretty impressive for the price point.  The new Pure XR is a 5.5″ display device with a whopping 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage that sells for $299 in silver or gold.  That alone makes this a pretty attractive device but diving into the specs a bit more, this is a serious phone.  It is powered by the MediaTek P10 octa-core processor running at 1l9GHz on four cores and 1GHz on the other four.  It has 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage but can be expanded with an MicroSD card up to an additional 64GB.  The display is a 5.5″ Full-HD Super AMOLED curved display that has 3D touch technology and is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.  That display renders at 1080 x 1920 with ~401ppi.

From a camera perspective, the main camera is a 16MP camera with laser focus and the front facing camera is 8MP and designed to give wide angle selfies.

Today’s Deal – Nexus 5X 32GB Down to $239 on eBay

Earlier this week I told you about a deal over at eBay on the Nexus 5X, 16GB storage model for $199.  That’s a great deal but if you want one with 32GB, you can also get a great deal on that model as well on eBay.  Currently the 32GB model of the Nexus 5X is down to $239.99, a savings of about 40% over what you can pick it up from Google directly. The nice thing is, the 32GB model is available in Carbon and Quartz where as the 16GB model is only available in Quartz.

Obviously with the new Marlin and Sailfish Nexus devices on their way, we can expect to see the prices starting to drop on the 5X and 6P but these are still solid devices.  Plus, as you probably already know, the 5X is upgradable to Android Nougat.

Huawei Includes Honor 5x in Software Update Policy

Last week I posted that Huawei had clarified their software update policy on the Honor 8.  This week the Chinese manufacture has added the Honor 5x to the list of devices under the new upgrade policy.  That means both of the latest devices, for the next 24 months, will see major and minor updates.  It is good news for sure as the Honor 5x has been a popular device (and at $189 unlocked, it’s not hard to see why) and Huawei is doing their part to keep their devices up-to-date.

Well done Huawei.

Reminder – Nexus 5X 16GB in White Still $199 on eBay

Earlier this week I told you about a great deal running on eBay for the Nexus 5X.  That deal is still going and available in Quartz (white) for just $199.  That’s a savings of $150 off the regular price that you get from Google direct.  The phone is brand new, unlocked and is the 16GB model from a storage perspective.  While the price itself is outstanding, even better is that this device will see the Android Nougat update that was released earlier this week and is a bit future proof in that it will see Android O (yes, I went there) when it is released next year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Demand Forces Production Ramp Up

With demand high and supply limited, Samsung is having to ramp up production of the Galaxy Note 7.  Reuters reports that the Korean company has had higher demand than they expected for the Note 7 and that they will be sorting out how and where to increase production to meet the needs.

“As pre-order results for the Galaxy Note 7 have far exceeded our estimates, its release date in some markets has been adjusted,” Samsung told Reuters in a statement without commenting on where launch delays could occur.

Samsung has made similar comments in the past, most notably on last year’s Galaxy S6 Edge, and one could argue that they creating a false urgency in the market.  While there is probably a little bit of truth to it, the numbers don’t lie.  Samsung is expected to sell upwards of 15 million Galaxy Note 7’s this year and delays in launching have already happened with further “adjustments” to the launch schedule made to try to keep up with demand.

The challenge, of course, is that Samsung risks losing buyers outright to competitor products so the faster they can ramp up that production, the better.  Samsung’s stock was down 2% yesterday after this news broke.
