Fourth Chrome 66 Build Lands in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

The fourth Chrome 66 build for Chrome OS has landed in the Chrome OS Beta Channel today.  Build 66.0.3359.102 (Platform version: 10452.54.0) is now available for most systems, bringing bug fixes and performance improvements.   You can manually check for the update by typing chrome://help in the browser bar if you have a Chromebook in the beta channel.

As most readers know, the Chrome OS Beta Channel is the last step before a new build of Chrome arrives for everyone in the Stable channel.  Chrome 66, which is essentially a maintenance build for the platform, is slated to go to the Stable Channel on or around April 25th.  There will likely be a fifth and final beta build next week.

Third Chrome 66 Build Arrives in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

A new Chrome 66 based build has arrived for the Chrome OS Beta Channel today.  The new build, 66.0.3359.79 (Platform version: 10452.42.0), brings a number of bug fixes, crash fixes and overall stability improvements to the channel as Google preps it for release later this month. The new build is available for the majority of devices and you can check for it if by typing chrome://help in the browser bar and checking for the update.  The release comes just shy of a week from the last beta build that was released to the channel.

As a reminder to readers, the Chrome OS Beta Channel is the last channel that new builds lands in prior to going to the public Stable Channel.  Chrome 66 is slated to land there for Chrome OS on or around April 24th according to the Chromium team.

Second Chrome 66 Build Lands in the Chrome OS Beta Channel

Just a few days after the initial release, a second Chrome 66 based build has arrived in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  The update is build 66.0.3359.67 (Platform version: 10452.30.0) for those keeping score at home.  This new build is available for the majority of devices according to the announcement and, more importantly, arrives for devices in the beta channel that can run Android apps.

I can confirm that my Acer Chromebook 15, which is in the beta channel, has received this update this morning.  For the first beta build on Monday, it was not available to it.

First Chrome 66 Build Lands in the Chrome OS Beta Channel

After a surprising fifth Chrome 65 build last week, the Chrome OS Beta Channel has finally ticked over to Chrome 66.  The new build for the channel is 66.0.3359.48 (Platform version: 10452.23.0), which is the same build that is currently in the Chrome OS Dev Channel (the Alpha testing channel).  That means that the Dev channel will likely move up to Chrome 67 at some point this week, if not later today.

It should be noted that devices that have Android app support will see the update land on them in a few days.  The Chromium team is slow rolling the update out to those devices.  I can confirm that my Acer Chromebook 15, which I keep in the Chrome OS Beta Channel,  has not received the update.

Fifth Chrome 65 Build Lands in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

A surprising fifth beta build of Chrome 65 has landed in the Chrome OS Beta Channel today.  It is surprising in that Chrome 65 was slated to land in the Stable Channel three days ago on March 13.  With this new beta build released, it would seem the Chromium team has found some issues they want to resolve prior to releasing it to everyone.

The new build is 65.0.3325.167 (Platform version: 10323.58.0), incrementing significantly from the fourth beta build of last week.  That build was .148.  That large of a jump in just six days is another indicator that a lot of work has been going on within the Chromium team to get the build ready for the Stable Channel.

Fourth and Final Chrome 65 Build Released to The Chrome OS Beta Channel

The fourth and final beta of Chrome 65 has been released to testers in the Chrome OS Beta Channel.  The update is build 65.0.3325.148 (Platform version: 10323.52.0) and should be available to everyone who is running a device in the beta channel.

Given that the Chromium team has pegged March 13th as the release date of Chrome 65 for Chrome OS, this could well end up being the Stable Channel build that is released next Tuesday.  For those new to Chrome OS, the beta channel is the last channel a new build comes to prior to being released in the Stable channel.

Third Chrome 65 Beta Lands in The Chrome OS Beta Channel

The third Chrome 65 based beta build for Chrome OS has landed in the platforms Beta Channel today.  Build 65.0.3325.107 (Platform version: 10323.46.0) is in the process of rolling out now but those who have a Chromebook in the beta channel can always force the update by typing chrome://help in the omnibar and checking for the update.

For those new to Chrome OS, the beta channel is the last channel a new build comes to prior to being released in the Stable channel.  Generally there are anywhere from 2-4 updates to the Beta channel before it makes it out to the general public.
