Google Photos Update Brings More Editing Features

Google has released another update to the Google Photos app for Android, bringing with it several new features aimed at giving you more editing functionality on your Android phone or tablet.  I’m personally a big fan of Google Photos and since the major update to it announced at I/O in June, it has become my first source for storing and editing photos.  If you haven’t given it a try I would suggest you do so.  I don’t think you will be disappointed.  This latest update, build 1.2.1.99143001 for those keeping score at home, allows you to edit your albums and photo descriptions all from your mobile device instead of having to go to the web to do it.

If you have created Albums (Collections) in Google Photos, you now have the ability to change the cover photo of that album along with the description of it.  Just go to the hamburger menu and tap Collections then select one of your collections.  Now use the more menu in the upper right corner to edit the title of your album.  If you want to use a different photo as the cover for the album, select that photo then use the menu to chose “Use as album cover”.  Previously these features were only things you could do on the web version of Google Photos so it is a great step to see the app

get more functionality for devices that may not be online at the time.

The other big thing that is in this update to Google Photos is the ability to edit the description of a photo.  To do this, select the photo you want to edit and then tap the information icon at the bottom of the display.  Now you can add a description or edit one that you have already created for the photo.

Along with these new features also come some undocumented bug fixes and other performance improvements.
