Today’s Deal – SanDisk Ultra USB-C 64GB Flash Drive for $21

Today’s Deal is on an excellent flash drive for USB-C.  The SanDisk Ultra USB-C flash drive allows you to have external storage with super fast transfer speeds and storage up to 128GB.  Right now you can pick up the 64GB model for $21.99 on Amazon.  As the name suggests, this flash drive has the new USB-C connector, not the older USB-A connector you see on most flash drives.  This allows this to work with the latest lineup of Macs and Chromebooks easily.

Because this drive is leveraging USB-C, transfer speeds are impressive.  You get up to 150mb/s using this drive so moving files to and from this drive is fast and efficient.  That USB-C port is also protected by a sliding cover that is built into the chassis of the drive.

Verizon Releases Latest Security Patches for the Galaxy S6 Lineup

Verizon customers who are using the Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 Edge on the network have a new update rolling out to their phones.  The updates bring the October Android Security Update to the phones.  The Galaxy S6 will be getting updated firmware build NRD90M.G920VVRS4DQJ1 while the S6 Edge will be seeing build NRD90M.G925VVRS4DQJ1.

The updates are minor in that the only contain the Android Security Update patches for October.  There are no new features nor any other performance improvements mentioned in the respective release notes.  This isn’t surprising frankly as the S6 lineup is now well & truly in maintenance only mode.  Still, it is good to see Verizon keeping these popular mid-2015 phones going and secure.

Today’s Deal – Lamicall S1 Phone Stand for $8.99 on Amazon

Today’s Deal is on a great accessory for those who don’t like having your phone laying on your desk or nightstand.  The Lamicall S1 Phone Stand is made of aluminum, has cushioning to protect your phone and comes in grey or red colors for $8.99 today on Amazon.  The stand is designed to hold any Android device or iPhone as the padded cradle is 15mm in depth.  This means it will fit a Google Pixel, Samsung Galaxy S6, S7 or S8 and an iPhone.  In fact, most of these devices will fit on the cradle in their cases.

The Lamicall stand is designed to give you a great viewing angle for your video calls or for watching streaming content.  It is also compact.  It stands only 3.35″ tall and has a base of 2.95″ x 3.94″ so it won’t take up a lot of space on your desk.  The bottom of the stand has four anti-skid pads on it to keep it from moving around and from scratching up your desk.

Minor Update Rolls Out for Chrome OS

Late yesterday, the Chrome team within Google announced that a new minor update was being released.  The new version is build 62.0.3202.82 (Platform version: 9901.66.0) and follows in the wake of a similar release for Chrome for Android yesterday.

The release notes indicate that it is rolling out now but that devices that are able to run Android apps, of which there are now plenty, will see the update later next week.

This update doesn’t bring any new features to the platform.  Rather, it is a security and bug fix update.

Samsung Update Allows Bixby Button Disabling on The Latest Galaxy Devices

If there has been once consistent complaint from owners of the Samsung Galaxy S8 or the Note8, it has been the dedicated Bixby button.  Bixby is Samsung’s personal assistant and it was rolled out well after the Galaxy S8 was released.  While Samsung did a fair amount of hyping of the AI-based assistant, it somewhat fell flat and users almost immediately began trying to figure out how to remap the dedicated button for the assistant on the phones.

Samsung squashed most of those but have finally given into customer demands.  There is a new update in the Galaxy App store that should roll out to all S8 and Note8 owners that will disable the button.

Note that this will disable the button.  You still can’t remap it, officially at least.  Samsung won’t let you remap the button to say Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant.
