Android Marshmallow Takes Another Big Step in Install Base

Android Marshmallow has taken another big step forward in the number of devices the platform is install on according to the latest report from Google.  For the week ending April 4, 2016, Marshmallow represented 4.6% of all devices that came to the Google Play Store.  That is a 100% growth over the March figure of 2.3% and is reflective of the significant number of devices that have seen the update come to them or new devices hitting the market.

April Android Security Update Addresses Multiple Critical Issues

The April security update for Android was announced last week along with the factory images of the new build being available.  For most Nexus device users, the OTA updates will start rolling out this week if you are not carrier locked.  If you are, it could be a few more weeks after that.  Along with the images, Google has released the Security Bulletin for the update too and it has a wealth of information on what was fixed in the update.

Google Photos Web Adds Shortcuts for Common Actions

For those who use Google Photos, the web-based version of the service has received two much needed improvements.  The first are keyboard shortcuts to commonly accessed features of the service.  This is a big deal as it pulls Photos inline with virtually all of the other Google web-based services when it comes to quick ways to access features to the service.  To see the new shortcuts, just type SHIFT+? on your Windows PC or Mac and you will get a pop-up that shows you the shortcuts available.

Marshmallow-Based Cyanogen 13 Comes to The OnePlus One

It has been a long wait and one that more than a few (Clinton raises his hand) thought would happen.  Android Marshmallow has finally comes to the OnePlus One thanks to the release of Cyanogen 13 for the device.  While Cyanogen has been working on Marshmallow for a variety of devices, it wasn’t clear if the OnePlus One, OnePlus’ original phone from 2014, would see it as the companies have parted ways from a business perspective.  For now, at least, those concerns are settled.

LG V10 on T-Mobile To See Marshmallow Coming This Week
