Google Forms Updated With More Granular Details

The Google Forms team announced today several enhancements to the online service.  If you aren’t familiar with Forms, it is a great free tool that allows you to create anything from a formal survey, a party invite RSVP list or even a feedback form.  It is a great tool that has a huge number of templates already pre-built for you to use.  You can check it out at http://forms.google.com.  That said, the team announced today that in addition to getting the overall responses to a form (which you have always been to do), you can now see individual responses from those who have replied.

Google Killing Flash Support for Ads in 2017

The demise of Adobe Flash continues and the Google AdWords network is the latest to fire a shot at the long time platform.  In a post on their Google+ profile, the AdWords team announced that starting January 2, 2017, Flash based adverts will no longer be displayed as the service and Google in general pushes to be 100% HTML5.  The change will impact advertisers on the Google Display Network and DoubleClick Digital Marketing.

The change comes as Google has been pushing to become 100% HTML5 focused so their advertising networks can reach the widest possible audience regardless of device or platform.  Given that the world is seemingly moving away from Flash, the news isn’t a real big shocker but certainly is good news for those who use those networks (ClintonFitch.com is one of them).

Gmail Notification Fix for Marshmallow Rolling Out

Since the update to Android Marshmallow on Nexus devices, a number of Gmail users have had issues with notifications.  Some users don’t get notifications while others get them sporadically.  I posted a way to get around this a few weeks ago but even that isn’t 100%.  Google has been working on the issue for some time and it looks like relief is in sight.  In the Nexus Product Forums, Googler Orrin (the community manager) has posted that a fix for the issue is rolling out and should be getting to all users soon.

Amazon Fire 7 and 10 Tablets On Sale Through Valentines Day

If you are heavily invested in the Amazon ecosystem and are in the market for a good, mid-market tablet, the Amazon Fire 7 tablet is currently on sale for $39.99 at the online retailer.  That’s a $10 savings off the normal price and gets you a tablet for eReading, video streaming, email and other basic functions, is more than up to the task.  The Amazon Fire 7 has a 7″ display that renders at 1024 x 600, is powered by a 1.5 GHz processor and has 8GB of onboard storage.  That storage can be expanded by an additional 128GB thanks to the integrated MicroSD slot.  As you would expect, this tablet takes full advantage of Amazon’s digital services with the Kindle ebook reader built in as well as Amazon Underground, the self-built app store from the company where you can download apps and games, many of which are free.  Many times Amazon offers apps in the Underground that you would have to pay for at the Google Play Store.

AT&T Rolling Out Marshmallow To The LG G4

Following the release of the Android Marshmallow update to the LG G4 on Sprint and T-Mobile, AT&T has followed suite and begun rolling out the latest major build of Android to the device.  The build is MRA58K and weighs in just shy of 1GB on the download size.  If you know your Android Marshmallow builds, you will know that the MRA58K was the original posted build of Android from Google back last fall.  It is unfortunate that it isn’t the latest 6.0.1 build but at least the upgrade is released which the good news.
