Some interesting news and rumors to start your week.  Tomorrow, Microsoft is holding an event where it is widely expected that they will launch at least two new Windows 10 Mobile devices along with the new Surface 4 Pro and other key announcements.  This event likely is a signal that the mobile version of Windows 10 is at or very close to completion.

Now there are rumors floating about that Google will be in attendance and that they will be announcing a wide range of Google apps to access their services on Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile.  This would be a huge step forward in the relationship between the two tech giants with Google pretty much ignoring Microsoft and Windows these past few years.  If you remember, I wrote a piece on the one sided relationship between the companies earlier this year and as of today, not much has changed.  That could be very different tomorrow.

The good news about Android Marshmallow updates keeps on coming.  We know that Nexus devices are getting the update next Tuesday while the HTC One M8 and One M9 will get it before the end of the year.  Samsung has a list of devices to and now we can add Motorola to the list of OEMs who are committing to the update.

Today on their blog, Motorola released the list of devices they plan to offer the Android Marshmallow update to over the coming weeks and months and it is a pretty nice list all-said.

Earlier this week I posted a Public Service Announcement to remind everyone to keep their eyes open for updates to their favorite apps as Google and other developers prepare for the release of Android Marshmallow next Tuesday.  It seems now that is happening in earnest and Google Messenger is the first app I’ve found in my updates that explicitly calls out Marshmallow support.  The update is version 1.5 for those of you keeping score at home and it is available now in the Google Play Store.  If you already have Google Messenger installed on your Android phone, it make take a day or two to hit your account.

For those not familiar with it, Google Messenger is the SMS/MMS app from Google that came standard as part of Lollipop but is now a stand alone app.  You can read my review of it here.

At the Google event earlier in the week, we heard about the new Nexus Protect program for the first time.  The program covers your new Nexus 5X or Nexus 6P against manufacturing defects or inflicted damages on the devices for 2 years.  Now Google has pushed the button and the MyNexusProtect is now live.  While you can’t make claims or really do much more than search details on the site, this eventually will be the portal by which customers who sign up for the service when they get their new 5X or 6P can make claims.
