Yezz Launches Billy 5S LTE Windows Phone

We haven’t even officially kicked of CES 2015 yet but there is already Windows Phone news to report.  Yezz Mobile, the budget friendly Windows Phone manufacture, has announced the new Billy 5S LTE which will support LTE networks in the North America market, a 5″ IPS HD display and an impressive 13MP camera.  The Yezz Mobile website did not have any pricing information available on this new Windows Phone but if it is similar to the Billy 4 and 4.7, you can expect it to be at a budget friendly price.

Coloud Pop Headphones Review – Great Sound and Quality at A Great Price

No matter what type of music you like, headphones and speakers make all of the difference when it comes to sound quality.  This is particularly true on the sub-$100 end of the scale where the vast majority of us reside, particularly when it comes to headphones.  I’ve always been one who tries to keep my headphone purchases under $30 for a lot of reasons but mostly because I tend to tear them up with the amount of travel I do and frankly I lose them.

Recently I picked up a pair of the Coloud Pop Headphones to use with my Lumia 1320 and have been nothing short of impressed.  Normally priced at $24.99 but currently on sale for $9.99, this headset provides outstanding sound quality for listening to music but also has a built-in microphone so phone calls are not a problem for this accessory.  It is also designed to be tangle free which makes it great when you are frantically pulling it out of your bag to join a conference call.  No more trying to sort out the cords while trying to listen to the call at the same time.  All this for under ten bucks is hard to beat.

Lumia Denim Rollout Guide

Microsoft has begun rolling out Lumia Denim and Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 to users but, as is usually the case, it is staggered depending on your location and mobile provider.  Newer Lumia’s will have Lumia Denim already and Windows Phone 8.1 Update 1 already installed but others will need to install these updates to get the latest-and-greatest on their device.

It is important to draw a distinction however between what Lumia Denim is and what it is not.  Hopefully I can clear that up for you and tell you exactly where you can find out when you can expect Lumia Denim to hit your Windows Phone.

Review of The Kindle App for Windows Phone – Solid Performance But Lacking Features

While eReader apps have come and gone – along with their services – the one constant that has remained is Amazon’s Kindle.  The Kindle app has been available for Windows Phone for some time now and its performance and stability has certainly improved over time.  The biggest challenge with the app remains feature parity when compared to the iOS or Android version of the app.  It is an area that Amazon could and should improve this app for Windows Phone users (and for Windows as well I might add) to get the full benefit of all the features available from Amazon on the platform.

Joe Belfiore Acknowledges Windows Phone Users Office Frustrations

While it may not be the soothing balm of a new release of Office, Windows Phone users should take some comfort in that Microsoft is listening. Well, at least Joe Belfiore is on the subject and if you are going to have one person listening, he’s the one.  Microsoft’s Vice President of Windows has posted on the Chinese blog site Weibo that an update for Office for Windows Phone is coming and news about it and the next version of Windows Phone will be announced before the Chinese New Year.  For those who want to keep score, that’s 48 days from today: February 19, 2015.

Seriously People, Think Before You Post Negative Reviews

As one who writes I have no problem getting negative comments on a post, article or review.  You, like me, are free to express your opinion and there are a lot of people in the world.  I can’t please everyone nor am I even going to try.  I appreciate everyone who visits and those who leave comments I am happy that you do so.

My problem comes when comments are posted on apps in the Windows or Windows Phone store that are completely uncalled for, uneducated and frankly make you look like an ass.  My current favorite example is the last two reviews on the fantastic 6sec app.  This Vine app has had over 9,000 reviews in the Windows Phone store and is one I’m currently prepping a full fledged review of here on the site.  Those 9,000+ reviews have generated a 4.5 star rating which the app fully deserves in my opinion.  But then you have two philosophers (I can make such sarcastic comparisons to philosophers as it was my major) who post one star reviews with accompanying comments that frankly show their lack of paying attention to the world around them.  To make it even better, the comments refer to another app, not even 6sec.  Why do I have a problem with this?  Because it is these types of reviews that drag an apps ratings down and impacts the income of the developer. That, in the end, hurts all of us.

Microsoft Store Sale On Laptops Continues

Throughout the holiday season the Microsoft Store had many promotions running on laptops that were frankly some great deals.  Those deals continue today with savings ranging from $20-120 depending on the model you select.  The most popular of these are the HP Stream 11 and 13 but there are other great savings on laptops from Asus, Acer and others.
